Maewan celebrates International Youth day!
The 12th of august in special day: we celebrate and we highlight the voices of all youths of the world, emphasising their initiatives, creativity, and commitment to finding solutions to the most urgent issues of the globe.
Youth speak up
According to the last Youth report of the United Nations, there will be 1.29 billion people aged between 15 and 24 in the world.
Traditionally, youths have been excluded from decision-making and political processes. Well, 2020 showed that youths have the power to commit, and make a difference, in the most pressing problems we are facing. And be a source of change within their communities.
The Swedish Nobel-prize winner Greta Thundberg, for instance, reminds us that young people’s voice has to be taken into account to reach the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals. Especially because issues like climate change or future global health crises will affect future generations in the first place.
The movement “Fridays for Future” demands that leaders and decision makers urgently take action on climate change. They need to take seriously the scientists that have been warning us for years that the time to act is running out.
In short, it goes without saying that 2020 has shown that intergenerational problems, which are painstakingly complex, cannot be the domain of just experts and bureaucrats. Youth need to be part of the solution.
Maewan for education and youth
With the help of our teams of athletes and Marion’s experience in the humanitarian sector, we support the youths we meet during our stopovers in their personal development. We believe they are tomorrow’s actors. That’s why we use sport and adventure to spark their dreams and be a driver for change within their communities.
We are still surprised by the energy that welcomes us every time we step into a classroom to share our story and what we learnt during our journey.
In France as in Polynesia and Chile, we pass-on to younger generations the values of discovery of oneself and the world through adventure and living in harmony with our limited natural resources. We are happy to have the opportunity to work with trustworthy partners like the xxx and xxx to better step in in support isolated youth.
Today, we join the thousands of voices around the world that take a moment to celebrate Youth in all its form and appreciate the extraordinary commitments of young people within their communities.
