Our conference in Brittany: what a success!

24 August 2020

Wednesday the 12th of August, l’Espace Kaori at the Aber Wrac’h hosted us for an evening of presentation and discussion of Maewan, all accompanied by short clips showing images from the many expeditions behind our backs.

Such a nice surprise to see so many people of all backgrounds and ages come together for the occasion. Kite-surfer Fabienne d-Ortoli, who has been onboard with Maewan twice, was also at the event, as professional photographer Monica Dalmasso (who we thank for her amazing photos of the event!). We were thrilled to be back in this magical place, where everything began in 2015 as Maewan sailed off the port of Aber Wrac’h for the first time.

We projected several short clips from our media production, followed by Erwan and Marion’s explanations and anecdotes to put the images in context. We care about discussing with our audiences, which is why we planned to have lots of moments for open questions, discussions, and hearing the participants’ opinions. We truly enjoyed this 2-way process!

Erwan’s testimony:

The Aber Wrac’h is one of those rare water ports with an almost mythical feel to it. On the 8th of February 2015 we set-off its shores to seek adventure, go beyond the horizon to see what lies behind what we do not see.

The sailboat Maewan is currently “resting” in Puerto Williams, at the end of the world close to Cape Horn. Now we are back in France, more precisely at the Aber Wrac’h. We take advantage of the time home to share our journey. Hosted once more by Jacques and Laurence Caraès’ Kaori Agency, we explain to an attentive audience how this adventure in an atypical journey and a never-ending source of learning about life, know-how, climate, people…a lifelong learning that every day has consolidated our willingness to create Marwan.

You surprised me with your insightful questions, I was happy to see your understanding and engaged looks when we told you about the litter covering Ducie’s atoll, located more than 5000km from the first inhabited coasts.

Thank you to all those that came to listen, I hope you had a pleasant evening discovering our world and vision.

Following the many positive responses to our event (and how much fun we had!), we would love to organise other projections and conferences in Brittany and France before embarking on the next leg of our expedition. If you are interested in hosting us for an evening, please do not hesitate to get in touch! Presenting Maewan, explaining the underlying themes of the expedition (controlling risk, project management, teamwork, cultural encounters…), we are always happy to share our history!
